About the circuit

The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir, inaugurated in 2004, was the first world-class motorsport venue in the Middle East. Designed by Hermann Tilke, the track spans 5.412 km with 15 corners, offering a unique challenge due to its abrasive surface, shifting desert winds, and high tyre degradation.

The circuit features key sections such as Turn 1, a prime overtaking spot, and the heavy braking zone at Turn 10, which tests both skill and tyre management. The venue boasts multiple layouts, including the Grand Prix Circuit and the Outer Circuit, which gained prominence in the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix. Since 2014, races have been held under floodlights, improving visibility while reducing track temperatures for a different strategic challenge.

Since 2012, Bahrain has been a regular stop on the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) calendar, hosting thrilling battles in both the LMP and GT categories. The 8 Hours of Bahrain serves as a critical round in the championship, often playing a decisive role in title fights. The combination of long straights, technical corners, and evolving track conditions demands precise strategy, tyre management, and endurance from both drivers and teams. With its state-of-the-art facilities and nighttime spectacle, Bahrain remains a standout venue in the world of endurance racing.
